today." breaking overnight... donald trump is once again riding high after his third win in the republican nomination contests. trump -- is the projected winner of the nevada gop caucus securing 45 percent of votes in that state. the win -- even more dominating than his victory here in south carolina just four days ago. we'll have more coming up. our other big story this morning. severe weather making it's way across the south. severe storms in florida spawned tornadoes that left several people injured in this is video of that storm moving through that area. you can see the wind blowing sideways underneath this hotel lobby awning. overnight there were several tornado warnings in that area. an apartment complex suffered heavy damage in that storm. these are pictures of firefighters on the scene in

buildings were almost flattened. most residents have been evacuated, but firefighters conducted searches overnight to ensure everyone made it out safely. we'll have another look at storm damage across the south ahead. let's get your early morning started with a look at your forecast. tim miller is in the first alert storm center with your wake up weather. everything seems to be falling into place for a chance of severe storms today as a strong storm system makes its way towards the state. a warm front just south of columbia this morning will move through and will kick out the fog and temperatures will rise into the middle 60s as winds pick up from the south at 25-30mph as the warm front picks up steam

a violent storm system in the deep south has caused deaths and lots of destruction. the national weather service says at least eleven tornadoes struck louisiana, mississippi and alabama yesterday afternoon and overnight. dan scheneman has the story. a savage winter storm in the than 19 million people in its path. in louisiana, several possible tornadoes wreaked havoc across the state. in the town of convent....a trailer park was s t....authorities say there were fatalities and dozens of injuries. "this is a working area this is a rural area 180 trailers back with 90 percent of them damaged." near baton rouge.....varnell oliver was inside a trailer when it began to roll

"the house started shaking it just lifted up and started flipping." elsewhere an 18 wheeler tossed onto its side....the roof of at its walls.... "when uh, the weather gets so bad that the roof of your gym wedge.....said to be wide as it was tall.....thomas howard saw its power first hand. new overnight... columbia fire officials say a space heater is to blame for a fire that damaged a home on king street near millwood avenue. firefighters were called around 12:15 last night by the woman who lives inside the home. investigators say she tried to put out a fire near her space heater, but the flames soon re-ignited spreading to other parts of the home. the woman was able to make it out safely, and will be staying with relatives. republican presidential candidate, donald trump dominated the nevada republican caucus, tuesday. results are still coming in ... but in the early morning hours he had the support of over 45-percent of gop caucus-goers in the state. his closest rivals, marco rubio and ted cruz, were far behind, but nearly tied. trump touted entrance polling showing him winning the caucuses among a wide swath of including, as he put it, "the he drew perhaps his biggest cheers of the night when he

"we look like hypocrites and fools to the entire world. what we have done is locked up people in a way that is causing all kinds of

around the world. people say 'oh, you're a democratic society...' we have locked people up in an island and i think that has hurt us all over the world. obviously if people are terrorists, they need to be confined and we need to make sure that they stay in jail until whatever happens. but i think the president is right. i think we should shut down guantanamo. i think in the long run, it will help us significantly." he was also asked about why he can't seem to catch fire with african- american voters. "we started with no support. our support has grown and it has grown in the african american community and what i believe to the degree in which we get our message out."

controversial fight with a florida neighborhood watchman, eric garner, who died after he fought violently with new york police trying to arrest him and sandra bland who hanged herself in a texas jail. clinton said they represented too many questions unanswered. another mother was pamela dinkins, whose son eric washington, was shot and killed in columbia last march. two teens are charged in his death. "i showed her a picture of eric in his casket in his uniform, and it brought her to tears." "there isn't one single thing that we could change that would result in some of us not being here on this stage here tonight. it is a very complicated and complex issue. it is incredibly political. it is incredibly driven by money and politics . . and it's driven by a very powerful corporate interest who is very good at what they do." that was mark kelly, the husband

congresswoman gabby giffords. they were also there to lend their support to clinton and her gun policies. giffords was left with brain damage after she was wounded by a gunman in 2011. the south carolina legislative black caucus is working to get out the vote. representative terry alexander says he's heard a lot of young people talking about going to charlotte this weekend for the big c-i-double-a tournament. he's reminding everyone who might be out of town that they can vote before they leave. puppy with a bb gun 18 times at a rock hill apartment complex over the weekend. but the mother of the oldest teen says her son was singled out. coleen harry has more. wildwood spring apartment complex. the 6 week old puppy - now named brody - still has the bb's in his body. police charged an unnamed 14 year old and 17 year old de'monte douglas with cruelty to animals. "he came to the house sunday. he had a puppy in his hand. he said momma, can we keep this puppy? i said no we can't. i said because we're in an apartment. and he was like okay. our next door neighbor has the puppy that he had." so while the next door neighbor cares for the puppy douglas couldn't keep, the puppy he is accused of shooting -- which was apparently someone else's dog -- is they're both at the center of social media posts. "his picture splashing all across the news, facebook. people saying so much about him - i didn't raise him right." his mom says the police report said it was a group

look at one of the hardest hit areas of louisiana as tornados swept across the state. 2 people were killed and dozens injured in this rv park in convent, louisiana. it's believed to have taken a direct hit from a twister. officials say 90% of the rv park was damaged. louisiana governor john bel edwards traveled to see the devastation first hand... "i will be honest with you. it is a minor miracle that we're talking about two fatalities and maybe three

when you go back there and see that we had 163 travel trailers here and the work was canceled in this area today because of the rain so must of these travel trailers were inhabited." the governor declared a state of emergency. we will continue to monitor for overnight -- tornado warnings were issued for parts of florida and georgia as this storm system pushes east. and we could see some warnings issued as those storms move into the midlands throughout the morning. our michal higdon spoke with the national weather service here in columbia on how it warns you when severe weather approaches. like tim miller, and our first alert storm team, meteorologists at the national weather service are monitoring this storm system very closely for the potential of severe storms and tornadoes. i spoke with dan miller, a meteorologist at the national weather service. he says they'll be monitoring radar and if they believe there is severe weather, or if they get eye witness reports from a particular area -- they'll then issue out a warning that goes to local

says it's extremely important that you heed every warning when it's issued. for many -- you'll get an alert on your mobile device if you live in the area under the warning. however, this technology is only in phones that are manufactured in 2014 or later. a reason it's so important to have an alternative for weather alerts. "we're the smartest people, we're the most loyal people. and you know what i'm really happy about, because i've been saying it for a long time. 46 percent were the hispanics. 46 percent. number one with hispanics. " today, trump will hit the campaign trail to make a

meanwhile-- marco rubio and ted cruz fought quite the battle for second place in the nevada caucus. rubio ended up taking the silver spot with 24 percent, while cruz came in at third with 22 percent. coming up in our next half hour-- we'll hear more from cruz including more of his shots at a fellow rival. hillary clinton and bernie sanders are continuing to campaign ahead of saturday's democratic primary. today, clinton will be in west columbia at 1 p.m. at the brookland baptist conference center to talk to voters. later, she'll make her way to sumter to speak at a morris college event. sanders, meanwhile, will be speaking at an event addressing poverty. that's happening at nine a-m at the doubletree on bush river road. last night-- clinton and sanders made their pitches to south carolina voters to in a townhall- the u-s-c school of law hosted sanders was asked about why he can't seem to catch fire with african- american voters. clinton addressed the persistence of her so- called e-mail scandal -- and was asked what she could say to comfort democrats

crashed in nepal. officials confirm all 23 people on board are dead. the plane was located after it went missing in the northern region of nepal. the plane took off from the city of pokhara early this morning. the flight was only supposed to last for about 19 minutes total ... but contact was lost about eight minutes after takeoff. three crew members and 18 passengers were on board. homeless veterans in the midlands will have a one- stop shop for help this weekend. dorn v-a medical center is teaming up with several agencies for an informational fair to help vets who've lost housing....or might be in danger of losing a place to stay. dorn staff will be avaiaible in the lobby of building 100 at the medical

reports of sexual transmission of the zika virus. they are investigating 14 cases. the c-d-c adds the new reports suggest sexual relations may likely be a way zika spreads. however, the most likely way to be infected with zika is through a mosquito bite. zika has been confirmed in 23 u-s states and the district of columbia. and the world health organization says up to four million people will be infected in the next year. tonight, space-x is expected to attempt its next falcon 9 launch. the space-x rocket is attempting to put another telecommunications satellite into orbit.

look at one of the hardest hit areas of louisiana as tornados swept across the state. 2 people were killed and dozens injured in this rv park in convent, louisiana. it's believed to have taken a direct hit from a twister. officials say 90% of the rv park was damaged. louisiana governor john bel edwards traveled to see the devastation first hand... "i will be honest with you. it is a minor miracle that we're talking about two fatalities and maybe three more people unaccounted for and when you go back there and see that we had 163 travel trailers here and the work was canceled in this area today because of the rain so must of these travel trailers were inhabited." the governor declared a state of emergency. we will continue to monitor for any other damage around the southeast overnight in the wis alert center overnight -- tornado warnings

parts of florida and georgia as this storm system pushes east. and we could see some warnings issued as those storms move into the midlands throughout the morning. our michal higdon spoke with the national weather service here in columbia on how it warns you when severe weather approaches. like tim miller, and our first alert storm team, meteorologists at the national weather service are monitoring this storm system very closely for the potential of severe storms and tornadoes. i spoke with dan miller, a meteorologist at the national weather service. he says they'll be monitoring radar and if they believe there is severe weather, or if they get eye witness reports from a particular area -- they'll then issue out a warning that goes to local broadcast stations. the national weather service says it's extremely important that you heed every ve in the area under the warning. however, this technology is only in phones that are manufactured "i would say, as a rule, the

"we're the smartest people, we're the most loyal people. and you know what i'm really happy about, because i've been saying it for a long time. 46 percent were the hispanics. 46 percent. number one with hispanics. a crime alert this morning... columbia police need your help finding two men wanted for a string of recent car thefts. police have issued warrants for 27-year old chasity henry and 34-year old william taylor. investigators say 31 vehicles were stolen between the first of the year and february 15th. police say in those cases, vehicles were left running in home driveways and convenience store parking lots. 23 of those vehicles have been recovered. if you know where henry and taylor can be found -- call crimestoppers. the department of public safety continues to look into a crash that resulted in the dui arrest of a longtime state prosecutor. an incident report details that donnie myers called investigators about the crash he was involved in near his home monday night on old chapin road. the car was abandoned when highway patrol troopers got there. an investigator says there was a pistol on the floorboard and a strong odor of alcohol in the car....but officers found myers at his house. troopers say myers claimed he was run off the road, and got a ride to his home from a passerby. myers was taken into custody and transported to the alvin s. glenn detention center to avoid potential problems with being
